A small list of accomplishments by the Current County Commission...
- Hwy CC, J & NN Corridor Project in cooperation with Nixa, Ozark, Fremont Hills, and Ozark Special Road District - The project will be the next step in providing much needed safety, traffic flow improvements, and increased economic development along this corridor.
- Crime Lab – Assisted Greene County by allocating funds to build a new Missouri Highway Patrol Crime Lab. This greatly expedites on-going and future investigations, helping to bring timely justice for both victims and the accused. The lab is now serving all law enforcement agencies in Christian County.
- Geographic Information System ( GIS) – This aerial photography program has been very beneficial in providing information to the offices of County Clerk, County Assessor, E-911, Planning and Zoning, and Law Enforcement.
- Comprehensive Plan – The Planning and Zoning department met with citizens throughout the county to assess the county’s needs in order to create a plan for the future. This was the first complete update since 1993.
- Traditional Zoning – The Planning and Zoning department is in the final phases of completing a transition to a more traditional zoning ordinance which gives a higher level of predictability in future land use which we expect to stimulate economic growth. It will also return a greater amount of control to landowners in terms of the way their land can be developed as a matter of right within zoning districts, as opposed to seeking permission for each individual use.
- Roads and Bridges - Built two bridges, rebuilt numerous culverts, and improved several low-water crossings. We have maintained and repaired many roads in Christian County.
- Budget – With conservative values in action the county is financially sound. The county established a reserve of funds and purchased land for the expansion of an ever growing county. Even though the county experienced a decline in revenues the past two years, we have been able to maintain the same high level of service to the general public. From 2003 to 2007 the county continued to increase revenues. During those years the county increased gross wages 10% and also elected to absorb the 4% employee portion of retirement benefits. We currently have a benefit package that is appealing to employees and has allowed the county to maintain 100% employment for the past two years.
- Storm Water – We have worked to improve water quality by cooperating with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and other agencies in order to meet the requirements of the Missouri Clean Water Act. The county participates with other regional governmental bodies in a coordinated quality monitoring system and works to provide education information to the public about reducing pollutants into our precious natural water sources.
- Riverside Inn – Together with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), application was made for a grant to assist the owners of the historic Riverside Inn with a buyout of flood prone commercial property located next to the Finley River. The owners suffered numerous floods causing significant damage and multiple insurance claims. The buyout will eliminate future flood insurance claims on this property saving the taxpayer money.
- A reverse 911 system that allows the county to send out important or emergency information directly to affected households, such as tornado warnings. A newly added addition to the system will allow cell phone users to add their contact information via a web page.
- County Commission has completed the remodeling of the building located at 202 W. Elm to house the Planning and Zoning and Building Inspection Department in an effort to better serve the citizens of Christian County.
- Storm Ready Designation from the National Weather Service
- First standardized county wide ID system. Barcoded ID tags for accountibility.
